2nd 3rd CONFERENCE OF INDIAN FEDERATION OF NEURO REHABILITATION (CHAPTER OF WORLD FEDERATION OF NEUROREHABILITATION)

A Report on 2nd Conference of IFNR at Powai, Mumbai (27th Feb – 1st March 2014)

The 2nd Annual IFNR Conference held in association with the International Association of Neurorestoratology, Global College of Neuroprotection and Neuroregeneration and Stem Cell Society of India from the 27th of February to the 1st of March 2014, at the Renaissance Hotel, Powai, Mumbai.

The Plenary Session on the 27th February chaired by Hongyun Huang opened with more than 500 delegates attending it from all the participating societies at the conference. As the afternoon progressed each association separated into parallel programs at the end of the plenary session.

At 1.30pm, the IFNR Scientific Program was inaugurated by the President, Dr. Nirmal Surya, with the Stroke Rehabilitation Session chaired by himself and Dr. Varade. The session presented a multitude of senior respected speakers who touched on topic ranging from Stroke: Indian Scenario to Evidenced Based Interventions in Stroke - An Occupational Therapy perspective. The Session ended at 3.45pm when the tea was served. An interesting panel discussion with all the speakers had a discussion to provide explanations for any questions the attending party had.

The conference resumed at 4.00pm with the Language & Cognitive Rehabilitation Session chaired by Dr. Anupam Gupta who also gave an introductory lecture to sensitize the delegate population about the Session in general. From Cognitive Retraining to a wonderful amalgamation of Hindustani Classical pieces which have been used for neurorehabilitation purposes were performed. The Session ended at 5.pm with a panel discussion with all the speakers including Gayatri Hattangadi and Shashi Oberai.

The Multidisciplinary Team Therapy Session immediately succeeded it with a varied set of speakers which included Famous Social Worker Sheela Chitnis who spoke on Multiple Sclerosis. As the Session wound up with yet a another fantastic panel discussion, the delegates and speakers alike resembled for the Gala event and Dinner that began at 7.30pm.

The Plenary session on the 28th of February was chaired by Shiquing Feng,Gustavo Moviglia for traumatic Neurorestoratology.

After a delicious lunch at 1.30pm the IFNR program was chaired by C.G Prashanth and Amruta A.Parnjape on Aquatic therapy in Neurological Disorders followed by a poolside workshop on Aquatic therapy.

We then began the next session of the IFNR program on the Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal cord Injury chaired by B.D Athani and Moderated by Deepak Palande.

The session presented a multitude of senior respected speakers who touched on topic ranging from TBI: An Indian Perspective to orthotics Applications in Neurorehabilitation. An interesting panel discussion with all the speakers had a discussion to provide explanations for any questions the attending party had. The sessions ceased at 4.00pm when the tea/coffee with snacks was served.

The Day 3 IANR morning sessions started on Pediatric Neurorestoratology chaired by Elena Chernykh and Ashok Shetty. There was a round table discussion on Future of pediatric Neurorestoratology Discussion coordinated by Elena Chernykh. The session was concluded followed by a tea/coffee break. A multitude of speakers spoke about various stem cell topics in pediatric neurorestology. An interesting panel discussion with all the speakers had a discussion to provide explanations for any questions the attending party had. The sessions ended at 2.00pm when lunch was served.

The afternoon session of the IFNR program on pediatric Neurorehabilitation was chaired by Vipul Shah and Rajendra Shrama.Various speakers contributed to the above topic followed by a panel discussion to provide explanations for any query regarding the topic.

We then began our last guest lectures session which was chaired by Navita Purohit. Various authors contributed to it. The session ended with a panel discussion followed by Lunch.

Post lunch there was a workshop conducted by Dr Nirmal Surya and Dr Abhishek Shrivastava on Botulinum Toxin A in Spasticity. After a quick 15 mins Tea/Coffee break we then began our last seeion on free paper presentation chaired by Pratap Sanchetee and Deepak Palande.

The IFNR program ended by 7pm.
